Alastair Cook’s retirement is the most talked about event in the cricketing World at present. What made his farewell all the more happening was his century in the last innings of the contest, something he would remember in the second phase of his career.

His riling knock of 147 in 286 deliveries against one of the fiercest bowling lineups in the cricketing world at present helped him get past the Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakarra’s run tally in the red-ball cricket (12,400 runs), in the process ranking him 5th in the list of leading run scorers in the longer format of the game.

The GOAT from England is now one of those 5 players who scored a century in their first and last Tests, with W.H Ponsford, R.A. Duff, Greg Chappell, and Mohammed Azharuddin being the other batsmen to have achieved this feat.

Not to forget, he now has a special distinction to his name of being the leading run-getter among all the left-handed batsmen in the world of Test cricket.
